Terms of use and disclaimer
This is not an emergency service and it is not an official record. In an emergency call 100 (Police) or 102 (Ambulance). Report a missing person to the Nepal Police first. This register exists alongside the official process, never in place of it.
Listings are not verified before they appear
Every listing on this site was written by a member of the public. Listings are published immediately, without being checked first. We have made that choice deliberately: in the days after a disaster, a delay of hours in sharing a photograph costs more than a wrong listing does.
The consequences are worth stating plainly:
- Information here may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, duplicated, or entirely false.
- A person shown as missing may already have been found. A person shown as found safe may not have been.
- Volunteers monitor the register and remove spam, hoaxes and abuse when they find them, but nothing is screened in advance and we cannot promise to catch everything.
- Photographs may have been uploaded by someone with no right to share them.
Treat everything here as an unconfirmed lead. Before acting on a listing — and always before telling a family that someone has been found — confirm it against the Nepal Police, the relevant embassy, or an official government list.
We do not publish deaths
A listing here is either still missing or found safe. There is no status for a death, and we will not add one. Confirming that someone has died is for the authorities and the family, privately — nobody should learn it from a public web page.
Where a death has been confirmed, we remove the listing at the family's request rather than marking it. If you believe a listing should come down for this reason, contact us and we will handle it quietly.
No warranty
This site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. We do not guarantee that the site will be online when you need it, or that any listing will lead to anyone being found.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Nepal Disaster Search volunteers and anyone volunteering on this register accept no liability for any loss, harm, distress, cost or damage arising from:
- Reliance on any information published here, or on its absence;
- Anything a third party does with information published here, including copying, republishing, or contacting people named in a listing;
- Delay, error, unavailability or loss of data;
- Content submitted by other users.
Nothing in these terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Warning about scams
After a disaster, fraudsters contact families claiming to have information about a missing person and demand payment for it. No legitimate authority, volunteer or hospital will ever ask you to pay for news about someone. Nobody from this register will ask you for money, bank details, or payment of any kind.
If someone contacts you demanding money, do not pay. Report it to the Nepal Police, and tell us so we can take down the listing that exposed you.
When you submit a report
By submitting a report you confirm that:
- The information is true and given in good faith, as far as you know;
- You are a relative, friend or colleague of the missing person, or otherwise have a genuine reason to report them;
- You have the right to share the photographs you upload;
- You understand that the listing will be published publicly, as set out in our privacy notice.
What you must not submit
- False, hoax or malicious reports, including listing someone who is not missing;
- Anyone's photograph or personal details that you have no right to share;
- Content that is defamatory, harassing, threatening, or intended to expose someone;
- Advertising, fundraising appeals, or links unrelated to finding a person;
- Contact details belonging to someone else without their agreement.
Submitting a knowingly false missing-person report wastes the time of people searching for the genuinely missing, and may be a criminal offence.
Using information from this site
You may use listings to help find the people named in them. You may not scrape or bulk-collect this site to build a mailing list, to sell, to solicit families, or for any purpose other than reuniting people. Contacting families to sell them a service, or to ask for donations, is an abuse of this register.
Removal and moderation
We may edit, hide or remove any listing at our discretion — for example if it appears to be spam, if it is disputed, or if the person named asks us to. Removal is not an accusation. Anyone can request a removal or correction using the “Report this listing” link on a listing page, or by emailing [email protected].
Changes
We may update these terms. The current version number is shown at the top of this page.
